Date Night

This weekend was proof that even my husband has his good moments. :)
Eugene actually took me out on a "real" date this past Saturday for our anniversary - 11 years by the way (but who's counting). Usually he's not a planner, so this year he actually took me by surprise. He got tickets for us to go see a play at the Civic Center downtown. We saw Fiddler on the Roof - which I loved. I'm really not a huge fan of musicals, but for whatever reason, I have loved the movie Fiddler on the Roof since I was a kid. We used to watch it over and over until it drove my Dad crazy - then to add to his infuriation, we would call him "Papa" all the time. I've watched it a few times since Eugene and I have been together, but it seemed to have the same "Jesus, do we really have to watch this again" effect on him, so I stopped subjecting him to it. I don't think I have watched it at all in at least the last 3-5 years. Anyway, good ol' Eugene saw an add for the play in the paper several months ago and actually planned an evening out for us. This is extraordinary for him on 3 levels: 1) He PLANNED something 2) He planned something that I would enjoy (even if it wasn't really his "bag") 3) He planned something to which he had to wear a suit. I think that I can probably count the number of times I have seen him in a suit on 2 hands - our wedding, company x-mas parties, and when he has a job interview. That's it. It was so nice to have a reason to get dressed up and go out - just the 2 of us. He doesn't surprise me often, but this one got me. He kept joking that maybe he's getting better with age...maybe that's actually true. As for the play, loved it! And, Eugene really liked it too - heard him laughing through the whole thing. Of course he may never admit it to anyone but me. :)

So 2 thumbs up for Eugene and our date night! Hope there's another in our future someday soon.

Catching up...

So I haven't been blogging in a while... a combination of out of town visitors and viral diseases has taken its toll on my free time lately. The stomach flu has made a run through my family (no pun intended) twice now, leaving only our youngest, Na-na, unscathed. My poor baby Bubba has had the worst of it both times. Poor little guy - he was already a scrawny little dude, but has lost around 3-5 pounds as a result of being sick. That's a lot for him - around 10% of his total body weight! I think that Na-na probably outweighs him right now.

While we are on the topic of weight loss, I guess I unwittingly irked The Brain by mentioning that I too, had lost weight as a result of our viral visitor. I totally understand how frustrating it is to see people who don't have to put in any effort, yet manage to have such "cute, little, fabulously petite" (aka annoying) figures. I just want to clarify that although I did not work out to lose this weight, there was indeed "effort" involved. I put in so much "effort" in fact, that at one point I actually fell asleep on my bathroom floor (didn't want to be to far from the restroom for any extended period of time, if you know what I mean). It was exhausting. Anyway, I am sure I will put all of the weight back on once I am back to 100% - whether I want to or not. :)

On a more positive note, we also had lots of family visitors around the 4th of July. My sister Beaner and her kids and my Uncle P and Aunt K and their kids were all in town. Man, they ran us ragged - beach, fair, harbor cruise, 4th of July party, brunches, dinners....aaaaahhhh! You see the problem is, they only come out here once a year and then they try to cram as much "fun" as they can into a few days. I guess we need to make more of an effort to go visit them - spread all that fun out a bit.

I also had some out of town visitors from way back in high school last week. We were able to gather 5 of us together at the beach for a mini reunion. Some of those people I had not seen in over 15 years. it was fun to catch up with everyone and meet all of the spouses and kids. Of course my darling spouse, Eugene, couldn't make it. It seems that his job always schedules him for overtime when I need him to be available, but then they don't give him enough hours when we need them...grrrrr. I could blog for hours about how much I loathe his job - perhaps another time.

As for our house, the yard project continues to move forward, but the pace has slowed a bit. My contractors have gotten sidetracked with another job. Unfortunately, I am friends with the other clients they are working for, so I guess I will have to play nice and share. At least, those friends are going on vacation later this week and will be gone for a while. Then I should have my contractors all to myself again - hah! I just hope the job will be done by the end of summer. I don't have any new pics to post right now - kinda lagging with that whole family visitor/viral visitor thing. Promise to post more soon.
